Jazz Festival
It happens every year at the end of November and the Havana Jazz Festival is organised by Chucho Valdés. It is an internationally renowned event that consistently attracts an excellent line-up, with gigs at venues around the city such as the Teatro Amadeo Roldán, Teatro Mella and Teatro Karl Marx. The Hotel Rivera acts as the festival headquarters, while the Casa de la Cultura Plaza and the Teatro Nacional de Cuba also host performances for this fanous jazz event.

Carnival
It takes place each August. Successive parades and processions run the length of the Malécon, while rich traditional music competes with more contemporary sounds, intense dancers and conga lines are everywhere. Expect music, dancing, processions, parades, fanciful outfits, fireworks, beer, rum and lots of fun. The faroleros are also present with dancers who carry a multi-coloured accessory resembling a streetlight, which they rotate constantly
